This exhibition will also be open to the public Saturday, December 3 & Sunday, December 4 from 11 am - 6pm as part of Artists in Buffalo Holiday Open Studios and Galleries. This exhibition will include paintings, prints, drawings, and ceramic sculpture.
The Starlight Studio and Art Gallery provides individualized art instruction for adults with learning disabilities and neurological impairments. Participants work with professional artists, Carrianne Hendrickson, Joel Lewitzky and Maggie Parks to develop in the media of their choice. By bringing participants together with professional artists in a studio/gallery setting, Starlight brings outsider art inside, opening new doors for both.
I printed the press release for this event-that says it best.
This is a great program that deserves a lot of attention. Any of us that have been teaching the arts knows that art opens many avenues for the student. Mix that with the fact that these students have special needs, and I think that leads to artwork from directions that we have not seen. Thanks to Maggie, Carrianne and Joel for helping us to see this angle!
